Discount Plans

Discount Plans
With health care premiums rising in the double digits, more and more people are in search of affordable coverage. In recent years, discount plans – sometimes described as an "alternative" to health insurance – have become more popular. These plans typically require membership to the plan with monthly payments that entitle members to reduced rates from a network of participating providers. The most common discount plan services are medical, dental and vision care, prescription drugs and chiropractic care. Discount plans are not an appropriate substitue for a major medical plan. If you seldom use healthcare services and are willing to take the risk tht nothing serious will happen then you may want to take the risk. Medical procedures are expensive. A routine appendectomy may be over $30,000 and the discount plan may only pay 15% which leave you responsible for paying $25,500. can you pay that out of your pocket? Even if it were to pay 50%, can you still pay the $15,000?
